About Us

Kathy’s Pies was established in 1986 by Kathy and Terri’s father, Neil Weyland and was originally called Kathy’s Homemaid Pies, Inc. We began by selling pies to local restaurants and vending companies, slowly growing our business and relying on word of mouth advertising to establish our place in the market. We surprised many, including ourselves, and to this day can laugh about the long hours and ups and downs of running a small business.

In 1991, due to health reasons, Neil decided to sell the business to Kathy and his little sister, Beth Swyers. Over the course of the next 4 years, the business began to grow at a rate that required taking on another working partner; Terri Weyland (Kathy’s sister) was asked to join the business in 1996. The girls moved the business in 2000 to its current location of 616 5th Avenue SE in downtown Cedar Rapids. This location provided much needed space over the old location, and contributed to our continued success.

After 15 years in the business, Beth Swyers decided to sell her share of the business to Terri and Kathy and spend time with her rapidly expanding number of grandchildren. We would like to thank her for her service and dedication to Kathy’s Pies and for the knowledge and love that she put into the business; she will be greatly missed.

We currently service 47 wholesale accounts and sell a variety of fresh pies out of the shop Monday – Friday 7:00am until 5:00pm and 8:00am until 1:00pm on Saturdays. Stop in and say hi the next time you are in the area, we would love to meet you and introduce you to one of the many successful and unique small businesses that make Cedar Rapids not only great place to live and work, but all so a great place to visit.
